In three crazy days for boxing the world No 1 won a fight in Las Vegas and then prepared to go to jail for 90 days, Amir Khan’s rematch opponent tested positive for a banned substance and the two heavyweight pariahs, David Haye and Dereck Chisora, eyeballed each other through a 7ft steel fence to launch a bout that will take place at West Ham’s Upton Park under the auspices of the Luxembourg Boxing Federation.
An Internet rumor that gained steam Tuesday alleged Floyd Mayweather failed a drug test related to Saturday’s super welterweight title fight against Miguel Cotto. “Not true from our end,” said Keith Kizer, executive director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, in an email to SI.com. “All tests negative so far.” Kizer confirmed Mayweather’s post-fight test
LAS VEGAS — In the week leading up to Saturday’s Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Miguel Cotto junior middleweight title bout, I had heard rumors that Mayweather had suffered some sort of hand or wrist injury.
Last Tuesday, I spoke to Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather’s adviser, about it and emailed Golden Boy promoter Richard Schaefer. They both vehemently denied there was any issue with Mayweather’s hand.
Ellerbe called me to refute the rumor. Schaefer more forcefully denied the issue in an email, writing, “Absolutely NOTHING wrong.
That sounds like a no if I ever heard one. While it may not have been written in the contract, when the inevitable contract negotiations between Mayweather and Pacquiao break down, it should be Cotto who gets another chance at Mayweather.
While it’s not the ideal next bout, it’s the most realistic. Cotto made Mayweather look human several times over the course of their fight.
Another bout will either prove Money is the stronger man or Cotto just needed a few adjustments to end Mayweather’s undefeated streak.
Boxing fans just want interesting fights, and that’s what they got Saturday night. Why not give it to the fans again if Pac-Man and Money can’t agree?
Justin Bieber was not only at Floyd Mayweather Jr.‘s title bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Saturday, but he also escorted the boxing champ into the ring, carrying the fighter’s championship belts.

Five things we learned from Saturday’s Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Miguel Cotto card at the MGM Grand:
1. There’s good, there’s very good, and there’s great
With every fight, Mayweather is moving up the all-time list. For years, one knock on his record was that, as good as he frequently looked, we didn’t know how he would react when he was rocked or when he was in a real dogfight. We know now. When Shane Mosley hurt him badly in the second round of their fight two years ago, Mayweather turned it around and dominated every minute of every subsequent round.
Fresh off a victory that saw him claim the World Boxing Association super-welterweight championship Saturday night (Sunday, PHL time), Floyd Mayweather Jr. threw worded jabs at Bob Arum in the post-match interviews, saying that the Top Rank promoter is preventing a much-awaited battle between him and Sarangani congressman Manny Pacquiao.

Knocked down in the first round, San Antonio’s Ivan Najera retaliated with a second-round technical knockout victory over Gerardo Dominguez on Saturday night at Cowboys Dancehall. On the undercard, all four-round fights, winners included Javier Rodriguez, Trevor McCumby, John Arellano, Ronald Ellis, Steve Hall and Ellis Hendricks. McCumby, a light heavyweight from Glendale, Ariz., remained undefeated with a first-round knockout over Percey Givens of Columbus, Ga. Arellano, a junior welterweight from Austin, looked strong, improving to 7-1 with a third-round technical knockout against Julian Rodriguez of Juarez, Mexico.
