ATLANTIC CITY — FanHouse was on hand to speak with promoter Lou DiBella on Saturday night, moments after he had his HBO televised, WBC middleweight (160 pounds) king Sergio Martinez use a single, crushing left hook to knock Paul Williams cold at 1:10 of the second round in the first defense of his title before 5,502 fans at Boardwalk Hall.

Following the his disputed, December 2009 majority decision loss in a clash of southpaws, the 35-year-old Martinez rose to 46-2-2 and earned his 25th career stoppage and second straight victory since the loss to Williams, during which both fighters were dropped in the first round. The win over Williams, coupled with Martinez’s unanimous decision that dethroned Kelly Pavlik in April, makes him perhaps the leading candidate for Fighter of the Year.

DiBella discussed some options for Martinez, including potential bouts with IBF super middleweight (168 pounds) champ Lucien Bute (27-0, 22 KOs), six-time titlist Floyd Mayweather (41-0, 25 KOs), eight-division king and WBO welterweight (147 pounds) belt-holder Manny Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KOs), WBO middleweight champion Dmitry Pirog (17-0, 14 KOs), junior middleweight (154 pounds) and middleweight prospect Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (40-0-1, 30 KOs) and interim WBO junior middleweight king Alfredo Angulo (19-0, 16 KOs).
