Friday Night Fights Preview

June 02, 2011

Friday, June 3, Angelo Di Carlo and Fox Sports collaborate and put on an all action spectacle.

The event will be held at the Greek Club, South Brisbane and will host the Light-Middleweight Australian title. The event will have plenty of Australia’s young up and comers on show.

The Main event is interesting on paper with Tyrone Tongia (15-2-0) returning to defend his Australian Middleweight title against Victorian, Pat Rullo (12-2-1), who ironically won the title last year when Tongia vacated. Tongia has been out of the ring for 15 months but is more than likely the favorite.

An interesting match up at Heavyweight with Thor Hoopman (3-1-0) taking on unpredictable slugger, Shane Tilyard (4-5-0), statistically Tilyard has only ever gone the distance once and boasts a KO win over Mick King who stopped Hoopman in his debut fight.

Next up will feature one of Australia’s real bright stars when local boy Trent Broadhurst (6-0-0) takes on Fox 8 contender contestant Diamond Les Piper (13-7-3), Broadhurst has been to Germany recently and sparred with world champion Daniel Geale for Geale’s historic middleweight title win. Broadhurst is a future world champion if he keeps testing himself.

The event that I’m most looking forward to is the much deserved rematch between Colin Orchard (4-1-0) and local boy Arron Russell (3-0-0). Last time these 2 boys met they were both undefeated and one went home without his 0. In a fight that I thought was the fight of the night, and unbelievably fast and entertaining, somehow ended up disappointed me with the decision. Russell took home the chocolates last time and I’m very excited to see if he can repeat it.

Undefeated featherweight Corey McConnell (6-0-0) does battle with former Bantamweight Dean Livanos (5-2-0) and Rohen Murdoch (2-0-0) vs Steve Moxon rounds out the night in a battle of the undefeated fighters.

Once again a very evenly matched up card by Angelo Di Carlo and a great way to get the boxing product to the Australian public with it be televised at 8pm EST around the country live on Fox Sports. Tickets are available through: Brian 0418 960 972
